Artubus Lake, just outside of Traverse City, Michigan, is one of those places attended by a proverbial calm in the air.

Narrow winding roads. Towering pine trees. A trace of snow licking at the shoulders of the road like a tide in egress.

Out here, these are the things you notice.

Granted, you’ll also notice a small yet growing number of multi-million dollar luxury vacation homes. E.g., the two you’ll find at Lakemore Retreat, a hidden gem of a getaway you should get in on before everyone else does.

The property comprises just two modern homes, perched side-by-side: the Cottage and the Lodge. Designed by Bay Area Contracting, the two complementary properties differ in style but are approximately equal in size: three spacious floors, four bedrooms, three baths and a fully equipped kitchen.

The Lodge is notable for its walnut wood interiors and charred red exteriors, a second-floor sunroom and a downstairs billiards room think cozy Alpine retreat without the altitude sickness.

Right next door, the Cottage features a more beachy, washed-out vibe. The open floor plan includes a cozy stone fireplace and an airy screened porch dining area adjacent to the vintage kitchen. The lady, she’ll prefer this one.

Whichever you decide on (hell, reserve both), they share an outdoor hot tub, grill and firepit, along with a private beach and dock. Not to mention the surrounding environs. Your front yard: Artubus Lake. Your backyard: 1,300 acres of protected land called the Brown Bridge Quiet Area. Hiking, anyone?
