Kevin Costner might not actually be the Montana-mad rancher he played in the summer’s surprise hit, Yellowstone. Nor his Union Army lieutenant of Dances With Wolves. Nor even the “Mariner” of Waterworld.
You could, however, definitely imagine any of those characters falling hard for Costner’s latest creation: his bespoke Toyota Tundra, now on view at the Speed Equipment Manufacturing Association Show — a.k.a. SEMA 2018.
Even Dances’ John J. Dunbar would be into it, even if he might at first be confused by how, exactly, trucks work. But he’s a resourceful dude.
So what does a frontier-loving guy like Costner put into his ideal truck?
This beast definitely looks equipped to ride out an apocalypse, with a pair of gun lockers, custom bumpers, Warn winches, LED auxiliary lighting, a padded sleeping space and a two-piece roof rack. It’s made for scrambling over debris, sitting on “4.5-inch lifted coilover suspension with 18-inch wheels wearing knobby 35-inch tires,” per Car Buzz.
The modifications were performed by Complete Customs, a McKinney, Texas, shop that should definitely get its own American Chopper-type show.
Of course, as it lacks submarine capabilities, this Tundra isn’t going to be much good should our own version of Waterworld come to pass. (You know, according to science, soon enough.)
But it’s great for the time being. Costner’s already using the truck, which was his conveyance of choice while shooting Yellowstone.
