When you look at the design of most electric vehicles, the word “futuristic” can often come to mind. Some, like Tesla’s Cybertruck, double down on that aesthetic. But a few cars in this space have embraced the flip side of that, channeling a more timeless look that hearkens back to the look and feel of the automobiles of bygone decades.
Alpha Motor Corporation’s Ace coupe, announced at the end of last year, too that retro sensibility and turned it into something that intrigued more than a few car enthusiasts. And now, AutoBlog reports that Alpha has announced a pair of new versions of the Ace — one geared towards the off-road market and one enhanced for high performance.
The Ace Performance Edition has dual motors and a top speed of 124 miles per hour, along with a few design options tailored for its upgrades. These include a rear spoiler and slightly larger wheels. The Jax, designed for off-road travel, features more significant changes to the baseline Ace. These include all-terrain tires, additional lights and half-doors for access to the back seat. Alpha currently anticipates that its range will be 250 miles.
Alpha’s lineup of cars is set for release in 2023, and the automaker is currently taking reservations. According to AutoBlog’s article, the baseline Ace will sell for between $32,000 and $39,000; the Jax will sell for between $38,000 and $48,000 — those prices are before tax credits in both cases. It’s an intriguing addition to the world of electric vehicles, and it’s catnip for automotive design enthusiasts.
