At 5,700 pounds and more than 15 feet long, we thought the Mercedes G65 and its 621-HP turbocharged 12-cylinder engine was the definition of large and in charge.
But based on the specs of this modified G-class Benz from Brabus, that definition is going to need an update.
Unveiled at the Frankfurt Auto Show, the Brabus 900 features a 6.3-liter twin-turbo engine, which is larger than the original 6-liter. The new engine, coupled with other improvements, bring the rig up to 900 HP and give it a 0-62 time of 3.9 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 168 MPH.
Far from the first time Brabus has modified a Mercedes, the 900 has an upgraded wide-body frame with an electronically adjustable suspension and custom 23-inch forged wheels. Billed as “the world’’s fastest V12 off-roader on the market,” the 900 is basically a Bugatti in SUV form.
Restricted to a run of just 10 models, the Brabus 900 can certainly move but it isn’t priced that way. The model has a starting cost of $800,000.
But considering the 900 is basically the Rolls-Royce of Mercedes SUVs, some might say that’s just par for the off-roading course.
