Jimmy Fallon has long been a fan of the musical spoof. Whether he’s remaking a Styx video shot for shot or doing his best Neil Young impression, Fallon has made music—which often takes itself way too seriously—funny, time and time again.
This time around, enlisting the help of actor/musician Kevin Bacon, Fallon rolls out a sketch he calls “First Drafts of Rock,” which features an early version of Tom Petty’s “Free Fallin’.” In Fallon’s mind, it seems as though Petty was stuck on one particular line of his famous song.
