These fairs are the places to shop this weekend

A man’s home is a living document of his life.

The things he keeps in it — the art on his walls, the books on his shelves, the couch imprinted with the outline of his ass — tell his story.

This weekend is a good opportunity to take a little pride in that story.

Westedge Design Fair
Santa Monica

Whether your kitchen’s in need of an overhaul or not, the retro fridges from Smeg are a sight to behold. So are the minimalist steel water fixtures from Italian designers at Fantini. Local designer David Trubridge makes lighting fixtures and globes that’ll illuminate your home or backyard in style. They’re among the many talented artists presenting at the Westedge Design Fair, going down at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica this weekend.

WAX Record Fair
Hollywood

What separates the WAX Record Fair from other vinyl jamborees: the event will be held at the iconic Capitol Records building on Vine and include studio tours and 30-minute vinyl-production demonstrations on Capitol’s legendary Neumann lathe — a machine that’s cut albums for Pink Floyd (Dark Side of the Moon), the Red Hot Chili Peppers, N.W.A. and The Alabama Shakes. They’re also auctioning off Pete Townshend’s smashed guitar, Tom Petty’s Telecaster and a 7” Elvis Presley recording from Sun Records. Only 36 tickets to the tours/demos are available per day; general admission is $10 in advance, $12 upon entry.

Both Sides of Sunset
Culver City

Cities are known by their buildings. And on Sunset Boulevard, you see structures of every make and model. Some inspire hope; others echo regret. Both Sides of Sunset is a collection of photography by various artists opening this Saturday at Kopeikin Gallery in Culver City. Make it a stop on your gallery hop this weekend.

Esters Wine Shop & Bar
Santa Monica

Regardless of whether you’re shopping or not, you need a drink. Take it on the patio at Esters Wine Shop & Bar, where a cold glass of white burgundy awaits with a charcuterie plate and a jar of smoked sablefish. Grab all of that to go so you can do it again on your patio when you get home.
