Jerry Buting and Dean Strang, the two defense lawyers for convicted killer Steven Avery and darlings of Netflix’s wildly popular (and controversial) miniseries, are going on tour. Tickets go on sale today.
Dubbed “A Conversation on Justice,” the defense hopes to answer all your remaining queries. The 27-city tour kicks off in Boston on April 16 and will make stops in most major U.S. markets.
Murderer, a Netflix sensation along the lines of other did-he-do-it docs like The Jinx and Serial, examines the case of Manitowoc County, Wisconsin resident Steven Avery and his alleged rape and murder of local photographer Teresa Halbach.
Spoiler alert: Avery had been previously exonerated of a sexual assault two years prior for a different case, and the series cast serious doubts on both his guilt and the role of disgruntled local law enforcement for the Halbach murder.
The Conversation tour will feature a Q&A with Avery’s defense attorneys, Jerry Buting and “normcore icon” Dean Strang (alternatively, the “Atticus Finch” of the show), who promise to offer more than just a rehash of the show. For them, it’s a “director’s cut.”
“It’s unfiltered conversation about the Avery trial and the lessons we learned, the things we can’t do when the media is talking to us,” says Buting. “And it’s a discussion of our justice system.”
So expect the duo to discuss other aspects of the criminal justice system, including how it handles “those who don’t have many advantages.” Tickets go on presale today (we love presales), starting at 10 a.m. local time, with general sales starting Friday at noon.
