Florida Baseball Team Wants to Ruin Your Father’s Day

Buy me some peanuts and preeegnancy tests ...

If there’s a better father-son bonding trope than playing catch in the backyard while the sun sinks below the horizon to an orchestra of crickets, we can’t think of it.

Florida minor league baseball team the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp — formerly the Jackson Sons — are clearly not into clichés. Instead of marking Father’s Day by handing out baseballs, they’ll be distributing free pregnancy tests so couples can see if they’ve got a new crackerjack on the way.

During their “You Might Be the Father’s Day” promotion on June 15th (which also happens to be a “Thirsty Thursday” boasting $1 beers), the Double-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins will hand out testing kits to let curious patrons “know if you need to return for Sunday’s Father’s Day game.”

“It will be an evening filled with suspense, intrigue and manila envelopes,” the club said.

Ah, just one more reason to love the minor leagues.
