As the great Steven Wright once quipped: “You can walk anywhere if you have the time.”

But since not even the most rambling man wants to take heel and toe to the Interstate, Backpacker Magazine made the The Long Trails Map, a compendium of 42 American trails with a distance greater than 129 miles. Some of these trails — the Cumberland Trail, the New England Trail, The Continental Divide Trail — span states. At least one — The American Discovery Trail, at 6,800 miles — goes coast to coast.

That’s a lot of trail mix.
