Every year, the University of Stuttgart, the same school that created the hammock-weaving spider robots, builds a pavilion blending technology and architecture. The school’s Institute for Computational Design (ICD) and its Institute of Building Structures and Structural Design (ITKE) constructed this pavilion, based on the design of a sea urchin shell, by using robots. The bots molded and stitched the laminted pieces of plywood together. The series of research pavilions created by the ICD and ITKE is to demonstrate the potential for computational design.
