We can’t prove it, but we’re fairly sure Dr. Trevor Thompson has a secret identity: Captain Obvious.
That’s because Dr. Thompson, the lead author of a Greenwich University study that was just published in the Journal of Pain, has more or less scientifically proved that beer is a more effective pain reliever than generic Tylenol. To that good sir, may we simply respond — duh?
Following an analysis of 18 different controlled experiments about the analgesic effects of alcohol on pain tolerance, Dr. Thompson and his colleagues concluded the evidence indicated having two beers was as good, if not better, than using paracetamol, aka Tylenol, Anacin, etc.
According to the researchers: “Findings suggest that alcohol is an effective analgesic that delivers clinically-relevant reductions in ratings of pain intensity, which could explain alcohol misuse in those with persistent pain despite its potential consequences for long-term health.”
Translation: Use it, don’t abuse it.
