REC's P-51 Watches Are Made from Salvaged Ford Mustangs

Christian Mygh is in the business of saving retired mustangs.

But instead of putting them out to stud, Mygh turns the salvages into stainless steel watches featuring dials crafted from parts pulled from ‘60s-era models of the Ford classic.

With several other design references that nod to the iconic muscle car (i.e., fuel gauge power meter, speedometer-style hands and dial numbers), the watches in the P-51 series all bear a small plate emblazoned with the vehicle identification number from the car that was used to create ’em.

The new series isn’t the first time Mygh’s REC watch company has turned a classic car into a classy watch — they previously worked with Porsches and Mini Coopers — but the P-51 collection is the first time the company has tackled an American model.

According to Mygh, REC can make about 250 watches from a single ‘Stang and each one comes with a scannable story card that leads to an online video detailing its parent vehicle’s history.

“Most people would just see a pile of metal, a ghost of a Mustang,” Mygh told the Detroit Free Press. “We see something completely different — the soul of a car and a story that needs to be told. I’m not cutting up Mustangs. I’m bringing Mustangs that are beyond repair back to life as a watch.”

Priced at $1,495, the watch is the perfect gift for the guy who already has Bullit on Blu-ray.
