Step 1: Rent the Onassis Yacht. Step 2: Find a Mediterranean Marina.

Step three's where things get fuzzy

We recently compiled our five favorite made-for-adventure yacht charters, a list of ships built to stalk bonito fish off Tanzania, explore reefs in the Indonesia archipelago, and watch penguins go swimming in Antarctica via submarine.

Theoretically, you could have similar globe-stomping adventures on Christina O, the 325-foot, 38 person-manned boat currently available for weekly rentals via Valef Yachts. But we wouldn’t recommend doing so. Once the personal yacht of Aristotle Onassis and Jackie Kennedy, this is the perfect yacht to just dock in a glitzy marina and soak up the ooh’s and aah’s.

Originally built as a Canadian navy ship, Aristotle Onassis bought Christina O in 1954 and fine-tuned it for $4M. His instructions to the design team might’ve been: “Titanic meets Beverly Hills.” The boat’s 17 cabins were filled with pianos, mantles and upholstered furniture, and for years it cruised the Mediterranean, hosting Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe, Princess Grace, Winston Churchill … and eventually Jackie O, when she married Aristotle in 1968.

Long story short: the boat went to Onassis’ daughter, who donated it to the Greek government upon her death, which eventually sold it back to a friend of the Onassis family, and now it’s available for rent with Valef Yachts. The boat has been updated in recent years (2004 and 2018) and is back to its ostentatious shenanigans, with jacuzzis and saltwater pools on the deck, massage rooms, toboggan aquaglide slides, and a fleet of speeders for water fun. Rental rates aren’t cheap, at $101,000 a day in July and August, but up to 34 guests can stay on the yacht a time, which should cut down costs considerably. Plus, you can host up to 250 people for a party.
