“No matter how far you cast your gaze, you will never see another guest.”
That’s the bold claim made by Gladden Caye, located in the Belize Barrier Reef (the world’s second-largest) 20 miles northeast of Placencia, Belize. Chris Krolow, the host of HGTV’s Island Hunters, helped discover and develop a property on that island, where white sands are surrounded by turquoise sea.
And it’s not quite uncharted: the very exclusive destination is available for travelers to rent.
You and your significant other share a 3,000-square-foot villa designed for one couple. (Though there is a second master bedroom should you truly want company.) You can spend your days swimming with nearby whale sharks before enjoying sumptuous meals prepared by the guest chef.
To ensure maximum privacy, the staff actually stays on a second, smaller island located next to it, ready to swim (or row) over as needed and then slip away again.
Gladden costs $2,950 a night ($3,550 if you add a second couple), with a minimum stay of three nights. The rate includes your 35-minute helicopter flight to the island.
