With the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio just around the corner, RealClearLife is taking a look at a selection of teams and the sportswear brands dressing them.
Ralph Lauren designed the opening ceremony uniforms for Team USA. The uniform is fresh and sporty, with classic preppy elements accented by the patriotic color scheme. Athletes will don a navy blazer complemented by gold buttons and repp-stripe trim over a white-striped shirt and selvedge white denim jeans. During the parade into Maracana Stadium on Aug. 5, the United States’ flag bearer will have “USA” emblazoned across the back of his or her jacket. Using electroluminescent panels, the flag bearer’s jacket will light the way for the rest of Team USA.
The team opted for a more refined yet casual look with its closing ceremony uniforms, with a red, white, or blue button down, classic chino shorts, and boat shoes. Striped cotton bracelets and classic repp-stripe belts offer a deft touch of sport and style.
Nike has designed the track and field, soccer, and basketball kits for both Team USA and Team Brazil, combining the brand’s stylish design with the latest Nike technology. Each uniform has been specially cut to enhance comfort and fit, with many featuring strategically placed ventilation points to keep the teams cool on the soccer pitch, track, and court. Both Team USA and Team Brazil also benefit from the addition of Nike’s AeroSwift Technology, a breathable, four-way stretch material designed to enhance speed, making it Nike’s most technologically advanced to date.
New Balance has teamed up with Team Ireland to create this year’s kit for the Olympics. Featuring colors inspired by Ireland’s presidential blue as well as the country’s traditional green, white, and orange, New Balance has designed the uniform with ultra lightweight, quick-drying fabrics that offer enhanced fit, comfort, and support.
Team Australia is just one of the countries Adidas worked with for this year’s games, bringing together Adidas’ design with high-performance technologies specifically updated for the 2016 Olympic Games. Taking into account the hot and humid weather of Brazil, Adidas has used its ClimaChill technology, moisture-wicking fibers, and fabrics of varying thickness and weights to help the athletes in every sport stay cool and comfortable. Adidas’ revolutionary Boost technology will also be used in the footwear for marathon, track and field, basketball, tennis, handball, and volleyball to give athletes a constant energy return.
Looking to strengthen their sports offerings, H&M will not only be dressing Team Sweden for the 2016 Olympics, but the brand has also tested the uniform on the athletes themselves to offer them maximum comfort and performance support this summer. Team Sweden worked with the Swedish brand to develop a sports kit that offers high performance and function, and they also collaborated with H&M on their expanded sportswear collection in store so customers around the world can also benefit from the Olympic team’s experience as world-class athletes. –Relaxnews
