Watch: NFL Recreates Opening of ‘Dallas’ for Upcoming Draft in City

Patrick Duffy and Linda Gray have been replaced by Sam Darnold and Lamar Jackson.

Full of lies, betrayals and surprises galore, the night of the NFL Draft sometimes plays out like a soap opera.

Appropriately enough, this year’s edition has a teaser ad that recreates the opening credits of one of the most popular prime-time soaps of the ’80s, “Dallas,” which, coincidentally enough, is the city where the draft is being held.

Instead of Patrick Duffy and Linda Gray, the stars of the short from Stun Creative in Los Angeles are top prospects like Sam Darnold, Lamar Jackson and Josh Rosen (“J.R.”)

“It’s obviously a parody, but it’s such a respectful nod to one of the most popular shows of all time, and there’s the unexpectedness and the twist of having the players as the stars,” said NFL Media executive Julie Haddon. “It’s fun to bring back those visuals, that style and music and the sense of drama and intrigue.”
