After making a number of racially-charged and sexist comments about LPGA players ahead of the U.S. Women’s Open last week, Hank Haney is once again making comments which have landed him in the news.
Haney, the former swing coach for Tiger Woods, was suspended from his show on SiriusXM for saying a Korean would win the Open. “I’d go with Lee,” he said. “If I didn’t have to name a first name, I’d get a bunch of them right.”
Woods, when approached about the topic, said the suspension was justified. “He deserved it,” Woods said. “Just can’t look at life like that. And he obviously said what he meant, and he got what he deserved.”
His ex-coach did not take those remarks too kindly and lashed out on social media.
“Amazing how @tigerwoods now has become the moral authority on issues pertaining to women,” Haney wrote on Twitter. “I spent 6 great years coaching Tiger, and not one time did he ever hear me utter one sexist or racist word. Now, in addition to being a 15 time major champion, I guess he thinks he’s also a mind reader? #glasshouses”
Haney’s willingness to go after Tiger and further the controversy shouldn’t be all that surprising as he previously doubled down on the comments that started this story in the first place.
Based on all of this, don’t expect to see Haney’s suspension lifted anytime soon.
