When asked about the behavior of Serena Williams at the US Open on Saturday, Golden State Warriors guard Steph Curry came to the defense of his fellow superstar.

During an interview with Omnisport as part of a tour through Asia with Under Armour, Curry said Williams showed “grace and class” after being penalized three times by umpire Carlos Ramos.

“It’s tough, but with experience you understand how you can control your emotions and how you can stay focused on what the task at hand is and that’s just winning basketball games and not letting anything get in the way of that,” Curry said. “You’re going to have reactions. That’s what sport is all about. The way Serena handled the situation, I think she handled it with such grace and class.”

Curry also said Naomi Osaka, who defeated Williams, “deserved to win and played amazing.”

Since the incident with Williams, it has been rumored that some tennis officials would consider boycotting matches in which she plays.

Also, after drawing criticism for a picture of Saturday’s scene at the Open which many felt was racist, an Australian cartoonist has denied the allegations.
