They’ll be sleepless in Seattle. After the Seahawks released all-pro cornerback Richard Sherman, the free-agent landed with one of their NFC West rivals, the San Francisco 49ers. ESPN reported Sherman agreed to a three-year deal with the 49ers heavy with incentives that could make it worth up to $39.15 million.
Despite Sherman’s impressive resume — which includes 32 career interceptions over his first seven seasons — and Super Bowl-winning pedigree, the signing is not without risk. The 29-year-old defensive back is recovering from a torn Achilles in one leg and a bone spur in the other, but is expected back in time for the start of training camp.
But in Sherman, the 49ers fill their biggest hole — and do so with a big name that has ties to the Bay Area. Sherman played his college football at Stanford.
