The ex-girlfriend of Washington Redskins linebacker Reuben Foster spoke out for the first time about her alleged abuse and her feelings about the team on Thursday.

In aN interview with ABC News, Elissa Ennis said it felt like a “slap in the face” when she heard that Foster was being picked up by the controversially named Washington team.

“When he got signed, I was like, I can’t believe somebody picked him up,” Ennis told ABC. “I was shocked.”

Ennis described her relationship with Foster as an on-again, off-again bond that lasted several years, USA Today reported. She said Foster invited her down to his Florida home a few weeks ago so “we could work on our relationship,” but Ennis claims that after she threatened to inform his current girlfriend of the  invite on Nov. 24, the 228-pound athlete became physically violent.

Ennis previously alleged that Foster punched her, kicked her, spit on her and dragged her down flights of stairs by her hair.

Foster was later arrested on a charge of suspicion of domestic battery and is currently awaiting a Jan. 3 arraignment. He has since been placed on the commissioners exempt list, which prevents him from playing or practicing with his NFL team.

This is the second case of alleged abuse Ennis has reported against Foster. She previously accused him of domestic abuse earlier this year but recanted that story.

“I did what I had to do for the person I loved,” Ennis said, when asked about  her decision to take back her February accusation. “I thought he would change. Anybody in my position, they would’ve done the same thing if they shared a family with this person.”
