Entering Week 5 of the NFL season, Kansas City Chiefs’ defensive lineman Chris Jones had been held without a sack.

For his team’s game that week against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Jones tried out a new pair of game gloves and, lo and behold, he recorded his first sack of the season.

Wearing the same gloves in Week 6 against the New England Patriots, Jones got another sack.

Entering Week 16, Jones now has at least one sack in 10 straight games and has been wearing the same pair of gloves for all of them. That won’t change when he attempts to set the all-time record for consecutive games with a sack on Sunday night against the Seattle Seahawks.

And not changing gloves has had some side effects besides boosting Jones’ sack totals.

“My gloves smell like a dead animal, but I won’t change them up because I’m very superstitious,” Jones said. “I won’t change the gloves at all. My teammates hate them. You can smell me coming.”

The gloves aren’t the defensive star’s only superstition as he also eats at the same chicken restaurant every Monday with the same two people and always orders the same meal.

“Even if I’m not hungry. I have to get the same meal, which is a chicken sandwich, a milkshake — milkshakes are delicious — two chicken breasts and three orders of fries,” Jones said. “I don’t eat all of this. It’s just the fact that I got it one time, had success with it, and I feel like if something’s not broken, why fix it?

On the season, Jones has 14 sacks which is 2.5 behind NFL leader, Aaron Donald of the Rams.
