Model Kate Upton‘s fiancé, Justin Verlander, who’s spent his entire career as a Detroit Tiger, has been traded to the Houston Astros in a blockbuster deal.
The pitcher, who was the 2006 Rookie of the Year and won both the Cy Young and MVP awards during the 2011 season, will join a Houston team that’s seen an epic second-half slide in ERA, sliding from first to eighth, per ESPN. The Astros are still sitting comfortably atop AL West, 11.5 games ahead of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
Verlander could be just the shot in the arm that the Astros need, as he’s registered a 3.24 ERA since May 30 and a 2.41 ERA since the All-Star break. He joins a staff that includes 2015 Cy Young award winner Dallas Keuchel, who’s been having a dreadful go following a stint on the DL; and Lance McCullers, who made the 2017 All-Star team.
The Tigers confirmed the deal on Twitter, giving Verlander a classy sendoff.
We’ve acquired Franklin Perez, Daz Cameron & Jake Rogers from the Astros in exchange for Justin Verlander & a PTBNL or cash considerations.
