There weren’t any angels in the outfield at the White Sox game over the weekend — but there was a nun on the pitcher’s mound.
In honor of Marian Catholic High School night at Guaranteed Rate Field on Saturday, Sister Mary Jo Sobiek headed to the mound to throw out the ceremonial first pitch of the game. And the result was heavenly.
After performing an arm-bounce trick, Sobiek uncorked a strike that was right down main street.

White Sox pitcher Lucas Giolito was on the receiving end of Sobiek’s strike and was impressed with what he saw from the righty.
“That was awesome,” Giolito said after the game. “She had a whole routine. She had it planned out. I was just lucky to be back there. She threw a perfect pitch. Oh, yeah. I think that she played some softball growing up and stuff so she definitely had a background. It ended up being great.”
