Former major league outfielder Raul Mondesi was reportedly sentenced to eight years in prison and fined 60 million pesos for corruption that occurred during his six-year term as mayor in the Dominican Republic, multiple outlets are reporting.
Mondesi, who played for the Dodgers, Blue Jays, Yankees, Diamondbacks, Pirates, Angels and Braves, won the 1994 Rookie of the Year, two Gold Glove Awards, and made one All-Star team in 1995. Sports Illustrated notes that during his time in the major leagues, he hit 271 home runs while batting .273.
He’s also the father of the Royals infielder of the same name.
