Cleveland Browns general manager John Dorsey listed three important factors for the team’s next head coach while speaking to reporters and, surprisingly, being a man wasn’t one of them.

While talking about what he’d like to see in a future coach, Dorsey mentioned hiring someone with character who has a high football acumen and be a leader of young men.

When asked if age, would be a factor Dorsey said it was not a concern and he was simply looking for the “best possible head coach to move this thing forward.”

“It could be a woman, too,” he said. “Do not look at me like that. I am serious. Who knows? We will look at everything is what I am trying to tell you all.”

While it’s a nice sentiment, it seems unlikely Cleveland would hire a female head coach as there aren’t even any women coaching in assistant position within the NFL.

There are a number of female owners and co-owners though including Kim Pegula in Buffalo, Martha Firestone Ford in Detroit, and Gayle Benson in New Orleans.

The NBA has had women in prominent coaching positions in the past, including San Antonio Spurs assistant Becky Hammon.
