The 2018 Orioles lost 115 games last season and finished 61 games out of first place in the American League East, making them one of the worst teams in MLB history.

This season, without key players like Manny Machado and Adam Jones, they could be even worse.

Despite that, a number of bettors are betting big the Orioles will be able to fly up the standings once again and possibly even capture a World Series win.

With their odds set as long as 2,000-1 in some Vegas sportsbooks, the Orioles have drawn bets from as small as $2 to as large as $500 to win the World Series.

“People will always bet the super long shots,” SuperBook oddsmaker Randy Blum said

So, while it’s possible Baltimore reverses course from last year and wins their brave backers a boatload of money, it seems more likely the O’s crash even harder this season.

Here’s the team’s worst-case scenario, according to ESPN: “Completely overmatched by their division rivals, the Orioles go a combined 0-38 against the Red Sox and Yankees. The rotation, long a sore spot in Baltimore, is so bad that new skipper Brandon Hyde opts for the opener strategy. Except that the bullpen — minus longtime stalwarts Zack Britton, Brad Brach and Darren O’Day — can’t handle the added stress and completely implodes. Instead of winning 63 games as projected, the O’s shock the world by winning … 36.”

The Yankees (5-1), Astros (6-1), and Red Sox and Dodgers (7-1) have the best odds to win the 2019 World Series.
