Polanski’s New Issue Brings Erotica to the Suburbs

Now you know what goes on behind closed doors

From Playboy to the ever-expanding creep of internet porn, there’s no denying that quality standards in the world of erotica have diminished over the last half-century. (Need more proof? Revisit Boogie Nights.)

Bucking that rule, though, are a number of upstart publications like Polanski, a magazine that just released its sixth issue — which also happens to be its most artistic to date. That’s owes in mahor part to art director Irwin Tobias Matutina, who opted for a theme centered around the suburbs. To realize his vision, Matutina tapped some of his favorite creatives to shoot scenes — some NSFW, others abstract or conceptual — colored by notions of life in America’s outlying residential neighborhoods.

What really makes the images sing is that no matter how graphic they are, they’re not exploitative: sex is always secondary to genuinely thought-provoking motifs and compositions.

The 192-page zine comes in a limited run of 500 issues. Act fast if you like beautiful things.
