A New SF Supper Club Involves Acrobats, Belly Dancing

Pairs with wine, sunset and the city’s boutique-iest hotel

Looking for something more than dinner and a movie? You’re in luck.

One of SF’s chefs de rigueur recently opened a supper club in Russian Hill inspired by the culture of the nouveau cirque. We recommend pairing it with the city’s sneakiest sunset views and a visit to a super private hotel for your next big night out.

No need to wait for a birthday or anniversary — this is a special occasion unto itself.

Public Barber

PREP: Get tidied up at Public Barber — either in North Beach or the Tenderloin, depending on where you’re coming from.

DRESS:
Is Handsome Oxford the best men’s vintage shop in the city? Quite possibly yes. Though the vibe runs more to streetwear, there are some sleeker, chicer options in the mix. Preview the selection on their Instagram.

SFAI

MEET: In the courtyard at the San Francisco Art Institute on Chestnut Street. Wander out to the sundecks; the sunsets here — over Alcatraz, Marin, etc. — are spectacular, and unless you’re a student, nobody knows about them. On the way out, see if the Diego Rivera Gallery is open, for a look at one of the master’s works.

EAT (AND BE ENTERTAINED):
The main attraction tonight is Berber, the new supper club. The cuisine: North African, with a notable assist from Chef Nick Balla, formerly of Duna and Bar Tartine. (You might remember him as well from our recommendation last week for his latest project, Smokebread.) Beyond the food, you’re here for the aerialists, acrobats and belly dancers, obviously.

The Battery

STAY: There’s plenty within walking distance, but The Battery — both a private club and a 14-room boutique hotel — is worth the Uber. The brick-walled rooms are Instagrammable, and the stay includes access to the club’s facilities — use this as a chance to check out the Vine Society, offering access to monthly wine tastings and more.
