Black Ember Releases a Pair of Backpacks Fit for Bruce Wayne

Guess how many colors they come in

San Francisco isn’t lacking for loud, colorful, leather patch-adorned backpacks.

The look has been copied and recycled perforce by seemingly every brand in town.

So to stand yourself out from the knapsacked crowd, you’ll need something a little more subdued.

And with their new collection of modular, high-function packs, local luggage dons Black Ember have achieved exactly that.

Dark as the night, waterproof and ingeniously constructed, the Citadel Collection is equally suitable for daily commutes or weekends in the wild. They’ve already soared past their original $25,000 goal on Kickstarter, and you’ve still got eight days to secure the special early-bird price.

Pledge amounts shift based on what amenities you’re really looking for.

The collection comprises two models: The Citadel, and The Citadel Modular. The straps on each are lined with the same foam you’d find in a pair of high-performance running shoes, with a frame constructed atop a sturdy aluminum base. And — true to local needs — you’ll have trouble squeezing a single drop of rain past the watertight exterior.

The only difference between the two? The Citadel is a fairly straightforward daypack, while the Citadel Modular ramps up the whole affair with magnetic hardware for attaching any number of “mods” — a badass array of compression straps and pouches that customize the kit to fit your storage needs.
