There’s a price to be paid for convenience. And that price is your taste buds.
Anheuser-Busch InBev and Keurig Green Mountain just announced a new joint venture aimed at developing an in-home, single-cup beverage system for alcohol. Essentially, a K-Cup for booze. The system, which has no release date or specs as of yet, would feature beer, cocktails and spirits.
Let’s count all the ways this is ridiculous:
- Nobody likes K-Cups. They’re wasteful and the coffee is awful (admittedly, I’m a Nespresso fan, so the taste problem isn’t necessarily a consequence of capsules).
- It’s based off the expensive, failed Keurig Kold system, which attempted to bring soft drinks into the home at a whopping $370 a pop.
- A system that automatically mixes cocktails might be useful — if you’re incapable of reading directions or measuring things — but there are plenty of in-home cocktail mixing systems out there.
Now, at-home 3D-printed drinks? That’s a tastier proposition.
