When James Bond is at the casino, his drink of choice is a vodka martini, shaken, not stirred. But when he’s retired back to the presidential suite, with some microfilm and a Russian seductress, he’ll be imbibing Bollinger champagne before the lights go out.
Bond first got a taste for Bollinger in Ian Fleming’s 1957 novel, Diamonds Are Forever; then subsequently, sipped on the celebratory spirit in films Live and Let Die, Moonraker, Octopussy, A View to a Kill, The Living Daylights, License to Kill, GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, Die Another Day, Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, and Spectre. In short, over 40 years of Bond films.
Now, Sotheby’s New York has side-stepped room service, dimmed the lights, and offered you a century’s worth of Bollinger lots in its “Champagne Bollinger, Direct From The Cellars and Finest Wines” auction set for Nov. 19.
While not every single champagne Bond upended in a movie is available in the auction, you can bid on Bollinger R.D. 1979 (featured in License to Kill) and Le Grande Année 1995 (Die Another Day), as well as a host of other rare and high-end bottles from the brand (the above lot features a Bollinger champagne set made specifically for the 2015 Spectre movie). (Also on tap are over 50 cases of ultra-rare wine, Domaine de la Romanée Conti.)
