A famous natural rock formation in Malta known as the Azure Window crumbled into the sea Wednesday morning following a violent storm, NPR reports.

Featured on-screen in movies and TV shows like Game of Thrones and Clash of the Titans, the Prime Minister of Malta took to Twitter to call the collapse “heartbreaking.”

“Reports commissioned over the years indicated that this landmark would be hard hit by unavoidable natural corrosion,” Prime Minister Joseph Muscat tweeted. ”That sad day has arrived.”

Game of Thrones fans will recognize the limestone arch, featured in the very first episode of the show: It was the site of Daenerys and Khal Drogo’s Dothraki wedding. Notably, mic.com reports, the scene caused controversy at the time of its filming, due to the HBO crew’s use of a “sand-like substance” not natural to the site.
