Since the year began, Saturday Night Live has found a new recurring bit for multiple cold opens: a talk show hosted by Britney Spears, as played by Chloe Fineman. This works well for a few reasons: Fineman’s impression of Spears is terrific, and the concept of the show, Oops, You Did It Again — discussing celebrities who have come under public scrutiny — allows for a solid degree of flexibility.

The guests on last night’s edition included Kate McKinnon as a world-weary Pepé Le Pew and Pete Davidson as Matt Gaetz. (Davidson as an embattled politician is itself a running bit in the sketch; last time out, he played Andrew Cuomo.) The highlight of the sketch, though, came from Chris Redd’s take on Lil Nas X, addressing the controversy over Satan Shoes and his latest music video.

“You know that wasn’t the real Satan, right?” Redd said regarding the Satan/lapdance controversy. “It was a dude in a Halloween devil costume, because the real Satan doesn’t do music videos.” When given an opportunity to give God a lapdance (or, in this case, a guy named Gary, played by Mikey Day, dressed as God), Lil Nas X went with it.

As Vulture reports, the real Lil Nas X weighed in on the sketch via Twitter.

We’re pretty sure things can only get more surreal from here.
