US Women Were the Stars for Team USA at Tokyo Summer Olympics

With 113 medals at the Tokyo Olympics, the United States was the biggest winner at the Summer Games — the only country to take home more than 100 medals. Of those 113 medals, more than half were won by female members of Team USA as the U.S. finished the Games with 66 medals in women’s events, the most ever for any nation.

Percentage-wise, 58.4% of Team USA’s total of 113 medals were won by women, with female athletes taking home 23 gold medals. That performance helped the U.S. (39) edge China (38) for the most overall golds in Tokyo.

On the flip side of things, a total of 41 medals in men’s events was the lowest for Team USA in modern Olympics history — even though it led all men in the world, per The Wall Street Journal. “What an awesome testament to the hard work of these incredible athletes and to those strong women who paved the way before them,” Sarah Hirshland, chief executive of the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee, told The Journal. “We are so proud.”

With a completely opposite reaction, Donald Trump ripped into the “woke” members of the U.S. women’s soccer national team for taking a knee before their July 21 match in Tokyo to protest racism and somehow suggested that the personal politics of some of the athletes somehow contributed to how they performed on the pitch.

“If our soccer team, headed by a radical group of Leftist Maniacs, wasn’t woke, they would have won the Gold Medal instead of the Bronze. Woke means you lose, everything that is woke goes bad, and our soccer team certainly has,” Trump said in an emailed statement to The New York Post. “There were, however, a few Patriots standing. Unfortunately, they need more than that respecting our Country and National Anthem. They should replace the wokesters with Patriots and start winning again. The woman with the purple hair played terribly and spends too much time thinking about Radical Left politics and not doing her job!”

The U.S. men will have a chance to bounce back three years from now in France when the Summer Games head to Paris for the 2024 Olympics.

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo received the flag Sunday during the Tokyo closing ceremony from International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach, and it will be raised at Paris City Hall later Monday. The flag “is the symbol that now, really, the Paris Games are coming and it will go very fast,” Hidalgo told reporters, according to The Associated Press.

Before the 2024 Games in Paris, Beijing will host the 2022 Winter Games in just about six months.
