It’s not a giant one, but there is a slight chance Odell Beckham Jr. could be headed to the Patriots prior to the NFL’s trade deadline on Tuesday afternoon.
On Sunday, Fox’s Jay Glazer reported that New England is looking to acquire a premium wide receiver and is offering high draft picks to potential trade partners.
During the same report, Glazer mentioned teams have called the Giants about Odell Beckham Jr. “Came with some decent offers but they’re saying we’re gonna pump the brakes on it for right now,” Glazer said.
It’s unlikely, but if you put those two reports together, it’s possible to see a scenario where the Giants could trade their star receiver to the Patriots.
It would likely involve the Patriots giving up two first-round picks in order to acquire Beckham as well as relegating themselves to paying a good deal of the $65 million in guaranteed money he has on his $95 million deal that runs through 2023.
The Giants could certainly use the draft picks for their rebuild and, if the Patriots are going all-in on this season, bringing in a star receiver like Beckham could give them the firepower they need to keep up with the Chiefs and the Rams on offense.
It’s a remote possibility at best, but Beckham did address the topic of being traded yesterday.
“[My name] was tossed around in the offseason, and I’m still here,” he said following Sunday’s 20-13 loss to Washington. “I don’t think I’m going anywhere. This is where I’m at. All I want to do is be the very best that I can be. Off the field. When I’m on the field. It’s really hard to think about that. It is what it is.”
