Kirk Cousins Is Proving to Be One of the Biggest Busts of the NFL Season

Cousins is not living up to his three-year, fully guaranteed $84 million contract.

Completing a blistering 70.6% of his passes this season, Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins is one of the most accurate passers in the NFL this season.

But, unfortunately for the team that inked him to a three-year, fully guaranteed $84 million contract this offseason, Cousin is not one of the league’s winningest.

With Cousins at the helm, the Vikings have lost three out of their last four games and are now 6-6-1 on the season, a far cry from the 13-3 pace that saw them win the NFC North last year and make it to within a game of playing in the Super Bowl.

Under the supervision of offensive coordinator John DeFilippo, Cousins has guided the offense to a scoring average of 22.9 points per game (18th in the league and eight spots lower than in 2017).

Cousins is taking sacks at an alarming level –  he’s already been sacked 10 more times than Case Keenum was all of last year – and is not making any plays that aren’t readily available.

That’s not necessarily his fault in some ways as he’s never really been more than a slightly above-average player, but he’s no longer being paid like one.

“Cousins is going to take what’s given to him and nothing more,” according to Bleacher Report. “There’s some value in being able to correctly assess the opening in a defense and exploit it on most occasions. But playing the position is about far more than simple pitch-and-catch. A quarterback needs to create. Cousins doesn’t do this.”

Hopefully, he’ll start to. If not, Cousins will be the biggest bust of the 2018 offseason.
