In the lead track from Eminem’s 2018 album Kamikaze, the rapper claims he was visited by the Secret Service in connection with statements made against Donald Trump, of whom Eminem has been a vocal critic.

“Cause Agent Orange just sent the Secret Service/To meet in person to see if I really think of hurtin’ him,” Eminem raps in the lyric from the track, “The Ringer.”

While Eminem, real name Marshall Mathers, has made many a dubious claim in his lyrics throughout his long-running career, this one in particular caught the attention of BuzzFeed News, who launched an investigation into whether or not the Secret Service did in fact question Eminem. Last year, the outlet filed a Freedom of Information Act request with the agency in order to find out the truth, and this week, BuzzFeed News finally got its answer.

According to 40 pages of documents the Secret Service reportedly turned over to BuzzFeed News, the agency did in fact interview the rapper with regards to “threatening lyrics” from the rap “Framed,” a track from the 2017 album Revival.

The documents reportedly say a “concerned citizen” contacted an agency on December 15, 2017 to inquire whether the Secret Service was investigating Eminem “for his threatening lyrics about First daughter Ivanka Trump.”

According to Buzzfeed News, the “concerned citizen” appears to be a TMZ employee seeking comment from the agency. The outlet had published a story about the Eminem lyrics hours before reaching out to the Secret Service.

The documents cite lyrics from “Framed” in which Eminem raps “how the fuck is Ivanka Trump in the trunk of my car?” Also noted is the fact that “This is not the first time MATHERS made threatening comments towards POTUS and his family. In June 2017, MATHERS freestyled comments that were threatening in nature towards POTUS.”

An interview between the rapper and the Secret Service took place in January 2018. BuzzFeed News reported that two pages of documents summarizing the discussion were entirely redacted.
