That's a lot of calories

It’s safe to say that, at this point in time, Mark Wahlberg is associated with physical fitness in a number of ways. Some of that comes from his own fitness routine and some of it comes from the companies he’s chosen to invest in. That shouldn’t suggest some sort of monastic devotion to exercise — the man is co-owner of a burger chain, after all — but it does point to a relative commitment to staying somewhat jacked.

At least, that’s true for the most part.

Earlier this year, news broke that Wahlberg had shifted his diet, meaning that he was consuming 7,000 calories per day. The shift was to prepare for his role in the forthcoming film Stu, about a boxer — Stuart Long — who went on to become a priest. (The film’s title has also been reported as Father Stu.) As it turns out, the 7,000 calorie diet was only for a period of two weeks; then, Wahlberg upped his caloric intake to 11,000 calories per day.

In an interview with Today, Wahlberg described the experience as “fun for about an hour.”

IndieWire reported that Wahlberg has been working on developing a film about Long’s life for several years. An article on the film’s production from earlier this year in The Hollywood Reporter notes that Wahlberg had once sought to reunite with his The Fighter director (and problematic filmmaker) David O. Russell on the project, but ended up moving forward with writer-director Rosalind Ross. Speaking of problematic filmmakers, the Hollywood Reporter article also wrote that Mel Gibson would also appear in the film’s cast.
