“It: Chapter Two” Looks Like It’ll Break Stephen King’s Slump

The trailer for the forthcoming film looks scary good

Despite having a major resurgence in the past year or so, adaptions of Stephen King’s books for the screen have been pretty hit-or-miss.

It?  Good. Pet Semetary? Bad. The Dark Tower?  Worse. Castle Rock? Better, but not great.

If the trailer is any indication, It: Chapter Two looks like it will bust the recent string of “meh” King adaptations.

Taking place 27 years after the first portion of the two-part series, the new film features the members of the Losers Club all grown up and once again back in Derry to deal with Pennywise the Clown. Starring in the film Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, Bill Hader, Jay Ryan, Isaiah Mustafa, James Ransone and Andy Bean.

Over the movie’s three-day debut, It earned $123 million. Warner Brothers has even higher hopes for Chapter Two.

“Let’s just remember, shall we, what type of box office boost we saw between Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame — nearly $100 million,” senior box-office analyst Jeff Bock told CNBC. “Now, I don’t think we’ll see quite that same figure for It: Chapter Two, but we’ll certainly still see a significant bump in the night — possibly a debut of $150 million.”

Writing about the trailer on Twitter, King wrote that fans should be looking forward to the film. “I’ve seen it, and it’s terrific,” he said. “You’ll float.”
