A week back this reporter suggested there might be too much whiskey being released. One concern: Brands putting out limited editions and one-offs that were difficult for even whiskey fanboys to obtain.

Maker’s Mark may have come up with a solution. According to the Lexington Herald-Leader, the distillery is launching a direct delivery service called Whisky Drop by Maker’s Mark early in 2021.

Although the Drop will only be open to residents in Kentucky and Washington, D.C. on a limited basis, it will give whiskey drinkers the chance to get special releases “right to [their] door every few months.”

More information is expected in January. However, any program that forgoes bottle hunting and makes it easier to obtain something like the excellent Maker’s Mark Wood Finishing Series 2020 Limited Release is worthy of a follow-up when details are available.
