Don't get too excited, though: nothing's final

According to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO Max is currently working on putting together an unscripted Friends reunion special. Talks are reportedly underway for the six core stars and the show’s creators to come together for the special, though nothing is set in stone yet.

The streaming service is currently working on getting Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer, as well as series creators David Crane and Marta Kauffman, for the special — but don’t get too excited just yet. “Sources caution that a deal is far from done and agreements with cast and creatives still need to be hammered out,” the publication writes. “When and if deals are completed, the challenge then becomes sorting out everyone’s schedules. Of course, the talks could fizzle and the whole concept could fall apart.”

The cast has been adamant that they won’t participate in any sort of scripted reunion, but an unscripted one like the one HBO Max is proposing is not off the table. “We would love for there to be something, but we don’t know what that something is,” Aniston said during an appearance on Ellen on Oct. 27. “So we’re just trying. We’re working on something.”

HBO Max and producers WBTV declined to comment about the potential reunion.
