After the New York Post’s John Podhoretz wrote a column arguing that Oprah Winfrey could not only run for president in 2020, but stand a chance of defeating Trump, the media mogul replied in a little-seen tweet that she might actually be considering it.
@jpodhoretz Thanks for your VOTE of confidence!Democrats’ best hope for 2020: Oprah | New York Post https://t.co/tvt82v8cMH
— Oprah Winfrey (@Oprah) September 28, 2017
“Thanks for your VOTE of confidence!” Winfrey tweeted to Podhoretz, linking to his article. But as writer and activist Shaun King pointed out Friday morning, Oprah sent the message in a “reply” format — inadvertently burying it on the social platform and consequently, fewer people saw it.
Uh, wow.
Had @Oprah not just sent a reply, but tweeted this differently, it would’ve blown up. https://t.co/eYZff9JRqM

Her apparent endorsement of the article comes just days after she moderated a panel of anti- and pro-Trump voters in Michigan, with Podhoretz pointing out she found a tone “appropriate for the moment without being heavy-handed.”
“If any figure in the United States bears watching over the next couple of years as our political culture continues the radical transformation that led to the election of Donald Trump, it’s Oprah.”
