You’re not gonna want to sit down for this.
Art publisher Edition Monumental recently released We Don’t Embroider Cushions Here, a limited-edition photo tome documenting the sordid history behind the LC4 chaise lounge chair and its hundred-plus appearances in adult films.
According to the publishers, the lounger — designed by Charlotte Perriand and Swiss-French architect Le Corbusier — has become the “f*ck-prop” of the porn industry … possibly because you can recline in a myriad of ways. Hey, it was specifically “designed for relaxation.”
“Our main interest [in the book] was to showcase an interesting and unseen trajectory of a piece of design,” authors Augustine and Josephine Rockebrune told Hyperallergic.
Why the title? Le Corbusier, who was kind of a d*ck, rifled through Perriand’s early drawings during an interview and sniffed, “We don’t embroider cushions here.”
Cushions is available as a limited-edition hardcover of 500 copies.
