Sometimes you have to commit. And the best way to do that is to announce you’re doing it.
Perhaps that’s the logic behind SpaceX’s recent announcement that they’ll send two paying civilians to the moon and back aboard their Dragon 2 spaceship sometime in 2018. It’s hard to believe it, but this will mark the first time in 45 years that people have traveled this far into space.
Details about the passengers haven’t been released. But they slapped down a “significant deposit” and will be undergoing some rigorous preparations later this year. The lucky space-setters will be accompanied by NASA astronauts.
Hopefully they don’t encounter too much turbulence, or a collision with the all of the space garbage orbiting our once-pristine planet.
