South Korean actor Jo Min-ki, who was accused of sexually abusing students, was found dead on Friday of an apparent suicide, according to New York Post. Police said Jo’s wife found his body in an underground parking lot three days before he was to be questioned about allegations that he molested at least eight women. The 53-year-old’s death was being treated as a suicide, reports NY Post, but police would not confirm that. It was unknown if he left a note. Jo was first accused of sexual abuse in mid-February amid a spate of #MeToo allegations sweeping his country. He taught drama at Cheongiu University in central South Korea. He originally dismissed the allegations as “rumors,” but when confronted with evidence that included lewd text messages he had sent, he admitted his behavior and agreed to cooperate with the authorities. “Everything is my fault, and I am the one to blame,” he said in a Feb. 27 statement, according to the BBC. “I am deeply sorry to all the victims for the pain I’ve caused, and from here on out, I will not avoid the social and legal consequences of my mistakes.” Jo was kicked off a TV role and was dumped by the university and his agency. He is among dozens of men in power who have recently been accused of sexual misconduct by women. The #MeToo movement hit South Korea in January when a female prosecutor publicly spoke out about allegedly being groped by a senior male prosecutor at a funeral in 2010.
