A new Vanity Fair article takes us inside The Saboteur, Paul Kix’s new biography of Robert de La Rochefoucauld. Rochefoucauld, who hailed from the fourth oldest family in France, was born an aristocrat but became a spymaster of the French Resistance during World War II. Tortured by the Nazis on multiple occasions, Rochefoucauld experienced the extreme horrors of the war and participated in many of the Resistance’s most important attacks. In The Saboteur, Kix pays special attention to one of Rochefoucauld’s greatest feats: his escape in a stolen car from Nazis set to execute him.
