Pope Francis is questioning President Trump’s commitment to pro-life values over his decision to end an Obama-era policy that permits children of undocumented immigrants to remain in the United States without fear of deportation, CNN reported on Monday.
“The President of the United States presents himself as pro-life and if he is a good pro-lifer, he understands that family is the cradle of life and its unity must be protected,” Francis reportedly said about the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.
He went on to say that, while he is not familiar with the minutia of the law, he is particularly concerned about vulnerable youth who lose their roots, making them susceptible to hopelessness and suicide.
“Removing young people from their family is not a thing that bears good fruit, neither for the young person nor the family,” Francis said.
He made the comments during a news conference aboard the papal plane on Sept. 10, while returning to Rome from a five-day visit to Columbia. On the last day of his tour, Francis was injured after the Popemobile abruptly stopped; his left eye was bruised and a cut above his left eyebrow dripped blood on his cassock, the Independent reported.
