David Blaine is the latest among the growing number of public figures accused of sexual assault.
The magician is currently under investigation following a report filed with the New York Police Department by an unnamed accuser, CNN reported.
The NYPD’s special victims division launched an active investigation into the matter, announced New York Police Chief of Detectives Dermot Shea. According to CNN, Shea did not provide any additional details at the news conference on Monday.
A source reportedly told the outlet that the allegation filed with the NYPD is beyond the statute of limitations, leaving it unclear how authorities will proceed with the investigation.
This is reportedly not the first time Blaine has been the subject of a sexual assault investigation. A source also told CNN that Blaine was previously under investigation about a year ago, but added that the case has since closed.
The master illusionist first attracted mainstream attention in 1999 when he was buried in a plexiglass coffin in a water tank for seven days. In the two decades that followed, Blaine has performed a variety of similarly daring stunts, including encasing himself in a block of ice in Times Square for 48 hours.
The magician is currently scheduled for a European tour set to launch in June.
