After falling short in 73 previous attempts at a major win, golfer Sergio Garcia finally pulled one off at this past weekend’s Masters, besting his friend Justin Rose in the first hole of a playoff.
He joins a list of previous winners that includes Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Tiger Woods.
Aside from adding a one-of-a-kind green jacket to his closet, the spotlight really hasn’t been on Garcia in recent years. So Business Insider took a closer look at the now-championship golfer.
He’s not doing so bad for himself off the course, earning $70 million over a career that began in his teens in the late ’90s. That puts him on the top 10 highest-paid golfers of all time list. He’s also scored $9 million in endorsement deals, including a major one from Adidas.
On the fun side of things, Garcia’s got the lifestyle down pat. He’s apparently a big poker player; enjoys fast cars; is the president of a third-division soccer team in Spain; and owns multiple residences, in Florida, Switzerland, and Spain.
And if it wasn’t clear from the final round Masters telecast Sunday, Garcia also has his romantic life in good shape. The fiancée he hugged shortly after his big Masters win? Angela Akin, a Golf Channel reporter, whom he’s set to marry this summer.
