“Oh, brilliant!” With those words Jodie Whittaker officially began her tenure as Doctor Who, and as the series’ first female lead. In the final minutes of yesterday’s Christmas Day special, Peter Capaldi, the now-former Doctor Who, regenerated and reappeared as Whittaker. The BBC has scheduled Whittaker’s first season for Fall 2018, and when the show returns, it will shift from a 12-episode format to a 10-episode one with slightly longer episodes, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Chris Chibnall, who has been Doctor Who’s show runner since the beginning of 2016, will lead production on the hotly-anticipated new season.
